OLD Elean, Harry Jackson, has been selected to join the prestigious WorldSkills UK Talent Development Programme!

Harry, 17, from Chatteris, was a student at King’s Ely Junior and King’s Ely Senior before leaving after Year 11 to complete an apprenticeship with Stainless Metalcraft Chatteris Ltd.

Harry has been invited to join the Talent Development Programme after excelling in its national skills competitions and being given a wildcard entry for the finals at WorldSkills UK LIVE in Birmingham last month.

The WorldSkills Competition, which will be held in Shanghai in 2021, takes place every two years and is known as the ‘Skills Olympics’. The competition features over 1,000 of the world’s most talented apprentices and students competing in over 50 different disciplines, as they battle it out to be named World Champion in their chosen skill.

Harry will now undertake an 18-month training programme with WorldSkills UK, supported by Metalcraft, and will face the ultimate selection test in Spring 2021 when the team that will compete at WorldSkills Shanghai will be named.

Harry said: “I’m really excited to have been selected for the next stage of the competition and am looking forward to meeting the other squad members and coaches. I’ve really enjoyed the competitions so far and will be working hard to hone my skills over the next few months to be in with a real chance of selection.”

Congratulations Harry and best of luck with the Talent Development Programme over the coming months!
