IT was wonderful to welcome Old Elean Gus Unger-Hamilton back to King’s Ely this week.

Gus (right), pictured here with his old Music Teacher, Mr Porter-Thaw, is the keyboardist in alt-J, the award-winning indie rock band that was formed whilst Gus was reading English at Leeds University. Gus started his singing career here at King’s Ely when he joined the school as an Ely Cathedral chorister.

Gus was guest speaker at the school’s James Bowman Lecture on October 11th, where he inspired Senior students, staff, Old Eleans and guests by talking about his time at King’s Ely, and his life and career so far.

The James Bowman Lecture was established by King’s Ely to promote the creative and liberal arts at the school, and is generously supported by the Old Eleans’ Club.

Thank you for coming Gus – we loved having you back!
