SEAN Quinn, who is Head of Psychology at King’s Ely Senior, hosted our final Round Table Lecture Society talk of the term.

Mr Quinn’s fascinating discussion was all about dreams and the development of the use of dream analysis as a technique in psychoanalysis. He used three of Freud’s most famous case studies – Dora, Little Hans and the Wolf Man – to explore the manifest and latent meaning that Freud uncovered in these dreams.

A student who attended the talk said: “Mr Quinn identified and unpacked the layers of meaning in these dreams with great skill, and went on to explain how Freud used these to analyse the human mind at an unconscious level. Equally interesting was his later discussion of how more recent developments in psychoanalysis have challenged Freudian theory. Dream analysis is now conducted with far less intensity than Freud thought was suitable, and focuses more on the manifest content of dreams. Mr Quinn conveyed complex theories with great clarity, making for a highly stimulating yet accessible lecture.”

Our Round Table Lecture Society was launched in 2021 to provide a platform for a series of after school academic extension lectures for Senior students to attend in the Michaelmas and Lent Terms.

The co-curricular scene at King’s, both during and after school, is vast. Our Pre-Prep children enjoy activities like Forest School, Musical Sparklers and Engineering Club; Junior children enjoy clubs like Archery, Pottery and Golf, and Senior pupils enjoy initiatives like Language Leaders, Clay Pigeon Shooting and Warhammer Club. The choices are endless, ensuring that there is something for everyone!
