The pennies have been counted and we can confirm that our #Movember celebrations throughout November have raised a fan-tache-tic £750 for the leading men’s health charity, Movember UK.

Not only did lots of Senior students and staff members across school grow moustaches (or in many cases, try to!), but Michael Ruta, Housemaster of School House – one of our Senior boys’ day and boarding houses – organised a whole host of activities, including bake sales (thank you Mrs Ruta!), a volleyball tournament, and a small auction of items – all to raise funds and awareness for Movember UK.

Mr Ruta, who is also a Teacher of Geography, said: “The key focus of Movember UK is to raise awareness about men’s health and to open up conversations about conditions such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health, which are obviously hard to talk about but are so important.

“The charity encourages people who wish to get involved to become a ‘Mo’. However, Movember is more than just some stubble covering a top lip for 30 days. To become a true ‘Mo’, it means you are willing to have those often awkward conversations with your mates; it means you are open to listening and supporting those around you; it means being there for someone you know is going through a difficult time and ensuring that they don’t feel alone. It is so much more than just a tache.

“Thank you to everyone who supported our Movember activities throughout November – £750 is a brilliant amount and I know that a lot of awareness has been raised. School House will continue to support Movember UK throughout the academic year.”

Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research, and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
