King’s Ely Sixth Form student, Matilda Stone, has recently completed a work experience placement at Shapero Modern in London’s Mayfair.
Matilda, who is studying Art and Design, Textiles and Classical Civilisation for her A-Levels, spent five days at the specialist art gallery, which was founded in 2014 and exhibits at major art fairs across the globe.
Matilda joined King’s Ely Senior in Year 9 and hopes to pursue a degree in History of Art.
Matilda said: “My time at Shapero Modern was incredibly valuable. I learnt so much and was given so much trust within the company. The tasks they gave me were challenging at times but very rewarding. I helped to get art ready to be sent off to Art Miami. I made a scale model of the exhibition room so that they could decide where the art would be placed.
“My favourite job was that I was allowed to go out to different galleries in Mayfair and see what they were exhibiting. I then wrote about the galleries for their social media profiles. I also carried out research into an artist called Polly Morgan and then wrote a small biography about her for their website.
“I was able to see works by some of the world’s most amazing artists up close for example, Andy Warhol, Picasso, Salvadore Dalí. In the future, I would like to study a degree in History of Art. Working at the gallery really helped me realise that.”
Helen Smith, Gallery Manager at Shapero Modern, said: “Matilda was truly an asset to have at Shapero Modern. She was proactive and always ready to take on any task with such wonderful enthusiasm. She was incredibly dedicated and paid close attention to any instruction given. We all agreed she had such a sunny, bubbly personality and we really enjoyed meeting her.”
What an awesome opportunity, Matilda. Thank you for providing Matilda with such a valuable experience, Team Shapero Modern!
