IT was a wet but very successful day for our Tennis teams against the Stephen Perse Foundation on June 12th.

King’s Ely’s first ever Junior Boys’ Tennis Team, made up of Joe, Faruk, Sam and Rufus, ended 2-2.

Head of Girls’ Games and Teacher of PE at King’s Ely Senior, Chanre Bond, said: “The Junior Boys’ Team is the first ever group of boys to represent King’s Ely in a competitive fixture. Joe and Faruk won both their sets, 6-2 and 6-4. They played well as a pair and started growing in confidence as the match progressed. Sam and Rufus had two tough matches but came away pleased with their performances. The boys approached the matches with a positive attitude and did extremely well for their first ever competitive fixture.”

The Year 7 and 8 Girls’ Squad, made up of Georgia, Disa, Kendle, Anya and Francesca, won 8-4, securing a place in the LTA – Tennis For Britain schools’ regional knockout stage!

Miss Bond said: “The hard work put in during the off-season has definitely paid off for these girls! Another successful result has resulted in King’s Ely winning the league stage of the LTA Schools’ Team Tennis Competition. We now progress to the knockout stage of the competition which continues again in September.

“This is a superb result for the girls and one which they can be extremely proud of. It is the first time we have entered the competition and to come away as Division 1 winners (without losing a match) is a fantastic achievement! The format of the competition includes both singles and doubles. Well done to the girls and thank you to Seb for the additional training over the past year.”

Well done all!
