KING’S Ely Sixth Form students are jubilant after achieving excellent results in their A Levels – including an increasing number of A* grades.

36 per cent of all A Level grades achieved this year were A* or A, 66 per cent were graded A*-B, 84 per cent were graded A*-C and 98 per cent of all students achieved A*-E. The number of students who achieved A* grades also increased to 15 per cent this year.

Eleven students achieved all A or A* grades. Matthew Buckingham, Asia Choudhry and Izzy Oughton all achieved three A grades. Ginny Lam achieved two A* grades, Lucy Pearce achieved an A* grade and two A grades, Jamie Lowery achieved an A* grade and two A grades and Ethel Wang achieved two A* grades and an A grade. Ming Hu was also among the top performers, achieving an A* grade, two A grades and an A* grade in his Extended Project Qualification.

Yinni Hu and Hattie Pinto were both thrilled after achieving the grades they needed to study at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. Yinni achieved two A* grades and an A grade to secure her place at Somerville College, Oxford, to read Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Hattie achieved three A* grades and an A grade to secure her place at Jesus College, Cambridge, to read Philosophy.

Heads of School George Clift and Alice Keeling also had reason to celebrate. Despite their many additional responsibilities throughout the academic year, George achieved two A* grades and an A grade, while Alice achieved two A* grades, a B grade and an A* grade in her Extended Project Qualification.

Principal of King’s Ely, Sue Freestone, said: “It is great to see a record number of students achieving A* grades, especially in a year of such uncertainty. Our leaving cohort have contributed so much to the life of King’s Ely and it is great credit to them to have achieved so highly. I congratulate them, their parents and their teachers for all the hard work that lies behind those achievements.”

Vice Principal Academic, Jane Thomas, added: “We are very proud of the achievements of all of our A Level students. We wish them every success for the future as they venture out into the world beyond school.”
