TWENTY two King’s Ely students competed in the Peterborough Junior Rowing Championships on June 30th.

Due to high demand in previous years, the Championships were altered to only offer events for Year 9 and 10 students. Even with these changes, the event was oversubscribed.

King’s Ely rowers competed in all boat classes, from the single scull through to the oct, and notable performances included:

2nd Boys 2x – William Buckingham, Conall Comley
3rd Boys 4x+ – William Buckingham, Samuel Martin, Edward Moss, Conall Comley, Richard Garrard
3rd Girls 1x – Sophie Wood
4th Girls 4x+ – Annie Moore, Mia Gray, Indra Salgado, Elizabeth Thomson, Clare Sargent

On June 29th, King’s Ely rowers Emily Moore, Rebecca Garrett, Holly Lancaster and Rahera Greatrex also travelled to Henley to compete in the qualifying event for the prestigious Diamond Jubilee Womens’ 4x-. The event attracts crews from across the world and this year there were 44 crews entered. Eight were pre-selected, leaving 36 crews racing for the last 8 places in the knock-out event.

Although the girls did not qualify, they gave a good account of themselves and delivered a really positive race. Well done girls!
