“Amazing”, “fantastic from start to finish”, “tremendous”, “a real triumph”… These are just some of the words that have been used to describe King’s Ely Prep’s high-energy production of ‘Mary Poppins Jr’.

More than 800 people packed inside the Hayward Theatre to witness our supercalifragilisticexpialidocious cast of pupils in Years 5 to 8 sing, act and dance their hearts out. Fifty-four children made up the cast and six students were involved backstage.

Three sell-out performances were staged between Thursday, March 21st and Saturday, March 23rd. The show was directed by Miss Emily Chadwick, with musical direction by Mr Chris Parsons, and choreography by Miss Natasha Hobbs.

Miss Chadwick, who is Head of Drama at King’s Ely Prep, said: “A standing ovation for the fabulous cast and crew of Mary Poppins Jr was the only way that the final show on Saturday could finish! I am incredibly proud of all our talented students who performed, and those who worked tirelessly backstage to make the show happen. I would like to thank everyone who supported the production, from auditions through to rehearsals and of course the performances, particularly Miss Hobbs for her amazing choreography and Mr Parsons for his musical genius. The standard achieved by our young performers was exceedingly high and this was seen in the reaction from our fantastic audiences.”
