YEAR 7 King’s Ely Junior pupils have received Christmas cards and small gifts from their German penfriends at Gymnasium Remchingen near Karlsruhe.

King’s Ely has worked closely with Gymnasium Remchingen for four years.

Neil Urwin, Head of German at King’s Ely, said: “All of our Year 7 students are matched to someone of a similar age and interests at the school there.

“This year we decided to do it as an e-pal arrangement so we can monitor the exchange of communication better and to intensify the link during an uncertain period caused by Covid. We hope that it will lead to better cultural understanding and friendships and a bigger exchange in future years!”

The Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Department at King’s Ely is a hive of activity and the school thrives on developing linguistic competence in all pupils while offering a wide range of enrichment opportunities. Strong links with our partner schools, including in France, Italy, Germany and Spain, allows us to make learning a language a rich and real experience.
