MEMBERS of the King’s Ely Climbing Club have finally been able to travel to Derbyshire after almost two years of not being able to get out onto the rocks.

Fourteen of our Year 11 students enjoyed the weekend trip, which was led by Old Eleans, Sophie Cheng, Brett Ffitch and Joe Watson.

James Houlston, our Director of Ely Scheme Outdoor Education, said: “In true British tradition, dire weather conditions meant that Saturday was spent indoors at Awesome Walls Sheffield. This gave students the opportunity to spend time climbing, as well as working on their knots and belaying technique.

“With an improvement in the weather on Sunday, students were able to climb outdoors, refining the skills they learnt the previous day. The group proved that they were good movers over the rock and that they were quick to pick up new techniques.

“My thanks go to the staff instructor team for making this a very successful and enjoyable trip.”

Ely Scheme is our unique outdoor education programme that is available to students in Years 9-13.
