TWO King’s Ely students and a member of the school’s catering team have raised hundreds of pounds for good causes by successfully completing half marathons.

Friends Thomas Keeling and Rosie McGrath, both aged 17 and students at King’s Ely Sixth Form, completed the Vitality North London Half Marathon on Sunday, March 12th.

The intrepid duo crossed the finish line in 1 hour 54 minutes and 17 seconds. Thomas was raising money for The Christie Charity, an organisation founded to provide enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds, and Rosie was raising money for Beat, a UK charity which supports anyone affected by eating disorders or any other difficulties with food, weight and shape. To date, they have each raised over £500 in sponsorship for their chosen charities.

Thomas said: “The race was an amazing experience! The atmosphere was so energetic and friendly, and Rosie and I would like to do another half marathon in September as we enjoyed it so much.”

On the same day, Alice Kingham, a chef at King’s Ely, took on the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon with her father, Les. Alice was raising funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), a charity which supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

Alice completed the race in 2 hours and 32 minutes, and has so far raised more than £400 for EACH. Alice described completing the half marathon as “one of the best achievements and most rewarding challenges of her life so far”.
