THE King’s Ely Bouldering Squad competed in the ‘Nukids Big Flash Competition’ at Highball Climbing in Norwich on October 12th.

The contest requires each competitor to complete 30 problems within the 3 hour time limit, with the highest points awarded for completing the problem first time (i.e. ‘flashing’ the problem). The route setters had done a fantastic job at challenging the competitors to produce some great problems.

The atmosphere was buzzing and the squad were psyched, even getting some air time on ITV Anglia News!

The results were:

Alex Layfield, Charlie Watson and Henry Rintoul came first, second and third in their rankings, but ‘top gunned’ (scores too high for the competition!).

Alex Scarborough and Mikey Turner came first and third in the Male Youth A Category.

The remainder of the squad took fifth to tenth place in the Male Youth B Category (Tom Biggs, Ben Biggs, Jamie Layfield, James Schoenberg, Rhys Phillips and Harry Oliver-Towers).

Director of Outdoor Education at King’s Ely Senior, Sophie Cheng, said: “The squad were fantastic and represented the school in a very positive light, putting all their hard training into good use!”
