"Performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe honestly felt so surreal. I feel incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to experience it. Going to The Fringe has always been a dream of mine, so even as I stood in the wings waiting to go on stage, 'Little Odette' inside me could not quite believe that I was actually there! Being in a place that brings together so many incredible performers made the whole experience even more special, and it is something I know I will remember forever!"
These are the words of Sixth Form student, Odette, who played Edith in our fabulous production of 'Rebellious Women' here at King's in March, and in Edinburgh in August.
Team King's - Miss Demi Teager (Director), Mrs Jane Parker (Trip Leader), Mr James Lane (Stage Manager), Mikhail (Technician), Odette, Clementine, Sophia, Rikhil, Eden, Tia, Sophie, Zach, Toby, Isobel, Lottie, and Yagmur - performed at Greenside Venues in George Street from August 11th-15th.
Celebrating solidarity, defiance, and the cost of speaking out, 'Rebellious Women' asks what it means to choose freedom in a world determined to control women’s bodies, voices, and futures - and why rebellion, joy, and collective courage still matter today.
The production has received amazing feedback. Posting on our Instagram page, @timdrama wrote: "Rebellious Women is The Fringe as it should be - raw, real, and genuinely powerful. This young, passionate cast poured real expression, meaning, and vitality into a story about the fight for the vote, and I was drawn in from the very first moment. It was pure, compelling, and generous storytelling. I loved every minute of it, and honestly can’t stop thinking about it since."
Posting on our Facebook page, Clare Hammond said: "What a fantastic show! My favourite show from the day - a great cast and confidently performed. Well done all!"
Miss Teager says that she "could not have asked for a better cast". She said: "Throughout the week, I was blown away by how incredibly well the students conducted themselves. Not only were they fantastic in every single performance, they were also incredibly professional, confident, and sociable when it came to watching other pieces of theatre, meeting other creatives, and interacting with the public. The feedback we received after every performance was simply outstanding, and so many people came to us to say how the story and the students’ acting moved them emotionally, and made them truly think about the Suffragette cause. This was precisely why I chose to tell this particular story, and the students did it such justice that I could not have asked for a better cast. I am so proud of each and every one of them, and I will genuinely miss working with them all."
Year 13 leaver, Eden, starred as Emily. She is heading to Italia Conti in Surrey to study Musical Theatre. Speaking about The Fringe, she said: "Performing at The Fringe was a once in a life time opportunity, and is something I never could have imagined I would do, especially so young. A week where we roamed Edinburgh, watched a large variety of shows, performed our own show, and had an overall terrific time is an experience that I will never forget. I will forever be grateful to Mrs Parker and Miss Teager for making it all possible."
