OUR Under 16/1st Team enjoyed a brilliant Cricket fixture against Langley School on June 8th, with strong sportsmanship and competitive play resulting in a 7 wicket win for King’s.

Langley scored 96-8 off 20 overs and King’s scored 97-3 off 12 overs (Ben Marshall 50*, Zak Bailey 22*).

Alex Meddle, Head of Cricket at King’s Ely, said: “King’s lost the toss and were made to bowl on a perfect batting day at Campus Field. Our opening bowlers started well, bowling some threatening deliveries early on, which removed the Langley opening pair. The pressure continued to build throughout the innings with some brilliant ground fielding and some excellent catching from King’s Ely boys, taking wickets consistently at crucial moments in the match. Langley were restricted to 95 off their 20 overs which looked a below par score on a good batting track.

“The King’s Ely opening pair (Ben Marshall and Ben Rae) took full advantage of the powerplay, which resulted in the pair shaking hands at a brilliant 50 partnership. Ben Marshall looked in fine touch, cruising to his maiden 1st Team half century off just 27 balls, which saw him retire soon after. Zak Bailey saw the King’s boys home to a comfortable victory, scoring 26 not out of just 12 balls in the 12th over of the King’s innings.

“An all-round good performance from the boys, doing the basics very well with some exceptional decision making and positive intent throughout. The game was played with brilliant sportsmanship and a competitive nature, which was fantastic to see. Well done boys!”
