WE bid farewell to Ben Pennington, our Deputy Head of Senior, this week.

Ben, his wife, Emma, and their children, Coco and Cassius, are swapping the Cambridgeshire Fens for the plains of North-West Kenya, where Ben will be Head of St Andrew’s School, Turi.

Ben joined our Senior Leadership Team in September 2018, and he and his family will be hugely missed. When asked what he is going to miss most about King’s, he said: “I will miss the pupils the most. Although they can drive you round the bend at times, they do make the job. I don’t jump out of bed with excitement for paperwork, Covid restrictions or Cathedral seating plans!”

When asked how he feels about Team Pennington moving to Kenya, Ben said: “A total mix of feelings at the moment! Nervous at about 4am, excited for the majority of the rest of the time. As a family, we are looking forward to the adventure of the next four years but we are respectful of the challenges it will present. Also, as a parent, I know I will be blamed for anything that doesn’t work out perfectly for my children!”

When asked to describe King’s Ely in three words, Ben said: “Challenging, rewarding, evolving”.

Thank you for everything Ben and best wishes for your African adventure!
