KING’S Ely attended the regional round of the U12 Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Netball Tournament held at Uppingham.

Although referred to as a regional round, schools from as far afield as Sedbergh, York, Greshams, Canterbury and Bromsgrove were attracted to the Uppingham tournament.

After some superb netball, the King’s Ely girls fought their way into the semi- final, where they met Formarke Hall – Repton’s prep school. King’s Ely won comfortably 6 – 1 placing them in the final.

Having fought back from a 3 – 8 score line in the final and seconds before the final whistle with the score at 8-8, King’s Ely scored their 9th goal only for it to be disallowed as it was deemed not to have gone through the net before the final whistle was blown. King’s Ely were moments away from being crowned Regional Champions!

However, to be runners up in such illustrious company is a superb result and means the girls have qualified for the National IAPS Netball Championships to be held at Rodean School, Brighton.

Amanda Kippax, Head of Girls Games at King’s Ely Junior, was thrilled at this achievement: “This is only the second time a team from King’s Ely has qualified for the finals and in doing so the girls were wonderful ambassadors for the school. I am so very proud of them!”
