KING’S Ely Sixth Form student, Jonny Iles, is using his pedal power to raise funds for a charity close to his heart.

Jonny, who is in Year 12, has set himself the challenge of cycling 300 miles to raise as much money as he can for Cancer Research UK. Jonny’s grandmother, Marion Docherty, died of inoperable pancreatic cancer when he was aged just 4.

Jonny, who joined King’s Ely Junior in Year 4, originally intended to complete the 300 miles during the month of June. However, he had to delay starting his challenge due to a chest infection and is now adamant to finish it by July 6th.

Jonny, who is from Norfolk, said: “Cancer Research UK is such an important charity. While cancer treatment has come a long way since my grandmother died, we still live in a world where one in two people will have cancer at some point in their lifetime.”
