MORE than 100 students had their voices heard in our inaugural King’s Ely Senior Vocal Festival and on March 12th the festival culminated in what can only be described as an outstanding Finalists’ Concert inside Ely Cathedral!

Adjudicator, Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, says she was “astounded by the maturity of the performances” and commented on the students’ technical proficiency, tone quality and stage presence.

Two new cups named after very famous Old Elean singers, Darren Jeffery and James Bowman CBE, along with glass trophies for class winners were awarded by James Bowman himself.

Darren even sent a message of congratulations to all students from Oslo where he is currently singing a major role with the Norwegian National Opera!

Our winners on the night were:

Intermediate Classical – Ivana Peat, Year 9
Intermediate Popular – Thomas Bateman, Year 10
Senior Classical – Victoria Davis, Year 13
Senior Popular – Francesca Bisson, Year 13
English Song – Victoria Davis, Year 13

The Darren Jeffery Cup for Intermediate Vocalist of the Year – Ivana Peat

The James Bowman Cup for Senior Vocalist of the Year – Victoria Davis

Congratulations to not just to our winners but to every single student who got involved with the festival – plans for 2021’s event will certainly be underway soon!
