KING’S Ely International (KEI) students put across some fantastic arguments for the annual KEI Debating Final.

The final was held at the school’s Old Palace on February 6th and the motion was: ‘This house believes only English should be spoken in the world’. The boys were proposing and the girls were opposing.

It was an intense debate of vigorous arguments, well-researched points and entertaining Points of Information. After much deliberation, the girls were announced as the winners.

Head of ESOL for KEI, Melanie Franklin, said: “Our International students really did themselves proud. The final took place between a mixed team of Hereward and School versus Wendreda and Etheldreda. The girls of Wendreda came out victorious but the quality of the argument, reasoning and level of English was second to none. All the students should be immensely proud of their achievements. In the summer, they will be representing King’s Ely in a debating final with Greshams.”
