We were thrilled to welcome Great Britain Hockey Player, Tess Howard, to King’s!

Since earning a first senior call-up for the 2018 Champions Trophy, midfielder, Tess, has gone on to establish herself as a regular for the England Hockey and GB Teams.

Tess, who is from the Cambridge area, visited us on Friday, October 6th and inspired our 1st and 2nd Team Hockey girls in some fast-paced coaching sessions, focusing on shooting and game development.

In the afternoon, Tess then gave a fascinating lecture to our Sports Scholars and Senior Hockey girls, in which she delved deep into her journey to becoming a professional athlete, and emphasised the importance of training and team spirit.

Having progressed from the England Under 16s to the Under 21s within just two years – winning a Bronze with the latter at the 2017 Junior Euros – and then to the Seniors a year later, it has certainly been a whirlwind for the Durham University student. Unfortunately, a serious knee injury saw Tess miss the Tokyo 2020 Olympics but she bounced back brilliantly to play in the World Cup and Commonwealth Games (CWG) for England in 2022; scoring in the CWG final on the team’s way to Gold.

Thank you for your visit, Tess – your resilience is admirable and your energy is so infectious!
