A GROUP of our Year 10-13 girls enjoyed a three-day Hockey Tour to Derbyshire the weekend before the start of term.

Chanré Bond, Head of Girls’ Games at King’s Ely Senior, said: “Our first stop was Nottingham Hockey Centre for a training session with a current England Development Squad player. The training session focused on basic skills and attacking play into the circle. The girls worked extremely hard throughout the session.

“Next stop was our accommodation for the weekend at Mount Cook Adventure Centre. On Saturday morning, the girls took part in a low ropes and mini zip wire activity, where they had to complete various challenges. After lunch, we headed on over to Repton for our first match of the weekend.

“This game was always going to be a tough one. However, the team never gave up and continued to make progress during the game. Alex Marshall scored a brilliant goal for the team after a solo run from the halfway line and a solid strike from the top of the circle. Alex was voted player of the match by the opposition side. Back to the resort for dinner, a quiz and a late night movie.

“On Sunday, we played against a club side from Lichfield. After a slow and very even start to the game, the girls started to work as a team and grow in confidence. The team started to maintain possession of the ball for longer periods in the game and began to move the ball around the pitch a lot better. By half time, King’s were dominating the game and working really well together. Rosie scored four cracking goals in this game and was given player of the match by the opposition.

“All the girls who came on the tour can be very proud of their performances throughout the weekend! The tour was very enjoyable and a great start to the season for our Senior team.”
