What better place to celebrate Harry Potter Book Day than in our Hogwartsesque Porta Library!

Mrs Axten-Higgs and some of King’s Ely Prep’s most enthusiastic Potter fans joined our School Librarians, Mrs Smith and Mrs Snell, for an after school session filled with magic and imagination.

Harry Potter Book Day, held on October 12th, is a chance for fans of all ages around the globe to celebrate J.K. Rowling’s iconic series with events, parties, and other festivities.

Mrs Axten-Higgs, who is one of our Year 6 Teachers, said: “The children, adorned in splendid witch and wizard attire, embarked on a magical journey from Prep to the Porta Library. Ascending a stone spiral staircase, they eagerly sought the entrance to Diagon Alley.

“Once inside, the witches and wizards were sorted into the four Hogwarts’ Houses – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw – and the prestigious schools of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. The Sorting Hat’s decisions set the stage for an evening of friendly competition and camaraderie.

“The main highlights of the evening were the activities and challenges where the Houses competed against each other to earn points. The magical treasure hunt saw pupils collecting letters to spell out a famous Harry Potter quote, adding an extra layer of mystery and adventure to the quest. The children were treated to extracts from several different Harry Potter books, followed by quiz questions for each House. Ravenclaw claimed victory, but the joy of participation was the real triumph.

“Each child also received a goody bag filled with wizarding wonders, ensuring that the magic will linger long after the event. Thank you to everyone who made this event unforgettable, particularly Mrs Smith and Mrs Snell, who put in so much effort to make the Porta Library even more like Hogwarts than it already is!”
