HOOP Trundle… Humphries Challenge… House Song… There are so many school events and initiatives throughout the year which are unique to King’s Ely – not forgetting ‘Sword and Dagger’!

Sword and Dagger is a King’s tradition, held annually towards the end of the Summer Term. The challenge sees our Senior students taking on the school assault course in competitive House teams, while the whole school community is invited along to cheer them on.

This year’s event took place on July 7th after a two-year absence due to the pandemic, so competition was more fierce than ever, despite the extremely hot and humid conditions.

The Dagger competition is for pupils in Years 9 and 10, while the Sword competition is for pupils in Years 11-13. Each House enters a team of six students.

This year’s Dagger trophy went to a combined Wendreda House and Etheldreda House (girls team), who completed the course in 4 minutes and 42 seconds, and Wilkinson House (boys team), who crossed the finish line in 3 minutes and 23 seconds.

In the Sword competition, Withburga House (girls) were victorious in a time of 4 minutes and 53 seconds, and Wilkinson House (boys) were the winners in a record-breaking 2 minutes and 58 seconds.

Congratulations not just to the winning Houses, but to every single student who competed. Kudos also to the Staff Team who completed the course in 4 minutes and 2 seconds!
