AUTHOR visits, dress-up days and storytelling sessions galore were among the highlights of an action-packed Book Week at King’s Ely Acremont and King’s Ely Junior.
To say the pupils and staff went all out for the literary extravaganza would be a slight understatement.The fun-filled week included visits from published authors Saci Lloyd, Pippa Goodhart and Mark Lowery. Pippa, who has had more than 40 children’s books published, including the ever-popular Winnie the Witch series, read stories to King’s Ely Acremont pupils and talked to them about the importance of reading and being creative.
Mark, whose books include Socks Are Not Enough and The Jam Doughnut That Ruined My Life, visited King’s Ely Junior to work with pupils in Years 3 to 6. He spoke about some of the techniques he uses to help him write his books before challenging the students to write their own dramatic story introductions.
Saci’s visit to King’s Ely Junior saw her working with students in Years 7 and 8. Her first novels, The Carbon Diaries series, came out in 2010 to critical acclaim and have since been translated into 15 different languages. Saci read passages from her books, talked about her journey to becoming a writer and ran a workshop with the students where they created stories around the theme of Science and alternative worlds with robots!
The Book Week celebrations also included a fabulous dress-up day at King’s Ely Acremont, King’s Ely Junior students visiting King’s Ely Acremont to read to the children, Annabel Reddick from Burrows Bookshop popping in to read stories at King’s Ely Acremont and Nursery, visits to Ely Library, Ely’s Topping and Company Booksellers and King’s Ely’s Porta Library, as well as pop-up book shops and book-themed quizzes and games.
