OUR Year 9 and 10 Girls’ and Boys’ Tennis Squads have been competing in fixtures for the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Schools Team Tennis Competition during the last fortnight.

The format for these matches is singles and doubles. On June 10th, both squads competed against The Peterborough School. A team is awarded two points for each rubber that is won. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams gained maximum points after the six sets played, therefore ending in a convincing 12-0 victory each.

On June 15th, the girls played their final LTA fixture against a strong St Mary’s School Cambridge team. After the initial round, both teams had won three sets. This meant that a doubles tie-break shoot-out had to be played to 10 points.

Georgia Shields and Ciara Comley took on the challenge and won the tiebreak 10-7. This gave King’s another victory for the season. This victory means that some of our players have now remained unbeaten for four years’ running in their LTA county matches – an outstanding achievement for these girls. Our boys’ team also remains unbeaten so far this season.

Girls’ Team: Georgia Shields, Disa Hellyer, Ciara Comley, Anya Hjaltun-Rayner, Francesca Stevens, Kendle Putter.

Boys’ Team: Faruk Bagci, Joseph Sabin, Rory Jones, James Chesterfield.

What a season so far – well done all!
