YEAR 13 leaver, Alex Hood, is off to Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in London after achieving the A Level grades he needed this summer.

We had a quick catch up with Alex before he starts his new adventure:

Alex, in which year group did you join King’s Ely?

I joined King’s in Year 7 having moved from the West Coast of America one month prior.

Which University/Institution are you going to and what will you be studying?

I will be starting at Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance in October 2020 (pushed back due to COVID concerns). I will be studying Creative Lighting Control (CLC), a course like lighting design which was the subject for all my practical A Level Drama work. CLC is predominantly focused on the more technical aspect of lighting in live theatre, including how to control lights using many different programming languages and how lights work.

What career path do you hope to pursue?

I aim to pursue a similar career path after University and to work in lighting, although probably not for theatres and more for sporting events or musical concerts.

How do you think King’s Ely prepared you for University life?

I believe that my experiences with boarding and how independent we can be in our learning and free time during Sixth Form has helped prepare me for living at University and fending for myself.

What will you miss most about King’s Ely and what did you enjoy most during your time here?

I will miss the sense of community at King’s – the teachers who all know your name and smile at you, the support they offer during their free time and the activities that King’s holds throughout the year; whether that’s House Music, the Sixth Form socials, the musicals or the numerous plays put on by Junior and Senior School. I will also miss the sport all around the school. As my University is on the smaller side, there are very few sports societies available so it was a wonderful experience to try cricket, rugby, tennis, swimming and I will especially miss athletics, which allowed me to discover and expand upon my skills in hurdling.
