“WE were delighted that the sun shone brightly throughout one of our busiest weeks of the year! It has been King’s Ely Cricket Week and it was also the week when our Junior House Athletics competitions took place. Occasionally, we headed into the shade for some other events this week. These included the excellent, pupil-led Digital Picnic and the Parents’ Information Evening for Year 2 and Year 6 parents, who were joined by those with children joining this section of the school in September.

“Move-Up Morning followed hot on the heels of the parents’ event and we were delighted to welcome nearly 100 children who will be joining us for the start of the next school year. Those new joiners joined the current children who were also meeting their new teachers for September. New friendships began and the excitement about the next steps at school come September were obvious elements of the day. The children were pleased to meet the new teachers joining the team and seeing where they will be based particularly.

“Next week will see the House Music Competition coming to a head and our preparations for the Summer Celebration Event on Saturday 2nd July between 10am and 12pm being finalised. We have asked for all the children to be present for their musical commitments that morning and we envisage a great morning sharing the children’s work at school with all of you too. We ask that each child is accompanied by a parent or a carer to the event because teachers will be hosting guests in their classrooms or leading activities. Additionally, from Monday, we will be contacting the parents of prizewinning children about the need for books to be selected from Toppings on Ely High Street prior to closing on Sunday 3rd July. Our annual Prizegiving will follow in our final week of term on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm. It will be streamed as well as being an event. Parents are warmly invited to attend in person.

“Clearly there is still a great deal to enjoy at school prior to the forthcoming summer break and we look forward to many of the events taking place with you being present. With our best wishes for a relatively quiet weekend ahead of next weekend’s celebration!”
