“THE many pictures and pieces of work winging their way to us this week were a cause for celebration. It is clear that the children are maintaining their efforts and that routines are being established in a range of creative ways in your homes too!

“Thank you for all your flexibility at home which was so valuable in making sure that the children received any support they needed as they entered this term. We also know that for many of you, this period of home-schooling is a significant complication to your working lives and that the balance of domestic routines are changed due to the current lockdown. Against a challenging background (challenging enough for us as adults) it is astounding to see what the children manage to achieve in such positive ways.

“It strikes me that one of my many joys at work is seeing the children applying the optimism and enthusiasm of youth to new challenges. Clearly these aspects of childhood remain intact despite our prolonged separation. This week it was joyful to witness the Youth Poet Laureate in the United States, Amanda Gorman, reciting poetry with captivating poise, courage and conviction at the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

“‘The Hill We Climb’ begins: “When day comes we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never-ending shade?”

“At school, our shade is lit by the enthusiasm of your children and therefore we thank you for partnering with us to keep the children’s passions alive this term. We look forward to more inspiration over the week ahead.”
