“To mark Children in Need today, pupils wore ‘home clothes’ in return for a donation to the charity and learnt a little about the work of this fantastic organisation in tutor groups. Whilst a small gesture, it is important for pupils to understand the importance of such causes. As a school we support various charities, and we are keen to develop these initiatives as an integral part of the school calendar. Whilst raising money is important, raising awareness of issues is equally important.

“Each House also chooses their own charities in addition to sponsoring a child through Hope4Malawi or World Vision International. Tonight’s music concert, ‘A Journey Through Europe’, is raising money for Ely Foodbank and The Ely Old Dispensary. As we approach Christmas, Sixth Form Psychology students will be supporting Jimmy’s Cambridge. Some pupils and staff are also taking part in the Fantasy Football World Cup in return for a donation to Amnesty International (to link with their campaigns with regards LGBTQ+ and migrant worker rights in Qatar).

“It is also heartening to learn about other initiatives this term. School House are currently supporting Movember, the whole school donated to the Ely Foodbank appeal at Harvest, individuals have raised money through half marathons and the ‘REDdy’ energy saving initiative is donating to Crisis. Thank you to everyone for your continued support of this work.”
