“THIS week our Year 9 and Year 12 assemblies examined the need to ‘Use your Voice’ with reference to the Japanese tennis player, Naomi Osaka, the current US Open and Australian Open Champion. She is the first Asian player to hold the top LTA ranking and is increasingly using her profile to speak out on issues of injustice. She famously wore a different mask for each of the seven rounds of the US Open with the name of a black American who had died at the hands of the police.

“Naomi Osaka’s aim is to get people talking about issues of injustice. I was delighted that Year 13 pupils were able to use their voice this morning to deliver the Year 10 assembly on allyship and sexism. Recent events continue to highlight the many issues in our society that still need tackling. We will continue to encourage pupils to use their voices to speak out.

“All the very best.”
