“YESTERDAY, in our weekly staff briefing, Julian Atkinson paid tribute to Liz Firek, who sadly passed away on Saturday. She had been in hospital receiving treatment for COVID-19.

“Liz was one of our original House Matrons, joining King’s in October 2004. She spent 14 years in School House before moving to Wendreda House in 2018. The many comments and emails received reflect the huge impact she had on the lives of pupils, parents and colleagues.

“A number of parents described her as a surrogate mother to the boarders, whilst one pupil likened her to a fairy godmother. Liz was known for ‘spreading sunshine’.

“Julian concluded: “We shall miss Liz enormously and she will be missed by so many; but she is leaving King’s a massive legacy of her love and care over many years for so many of our pupils.”

“All the very best for the week ahead.”
