“I imagine many Year 11s and Year 13s welcomed the news yesterday from the Department for Education regarding next summer’s exams. This summary on the BBC website gives a good overview of the arrangements for next summer – www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-55160374 – we are confident that our pupils are well prepared, and we hope this news helps to reduce any anxiety.

“This week has been one of both optimism and challenge. The news regarding the vaccine is clearly an historic step but we are acutely aware of the ongoing challenges. On Thursday it was particularly impressive to see the Year 9s braving adverse weather conditions during the Ely Scheme Challenge. In addition, this week marked the start of the annual Vocal Festival in the Music Department and the first Cricket nets of the year, as we anticipate brighter futures.

“Looking ahead, Friday 11th December and Tuesday 15th December are both Christmas Jumper Days. We are asking pupils to donate £2 on each occasion to charity. There is no compulsion to wear jumpers, but we hope many pupils will enter into the festive spirit for a good cause.

“Carol Services will take place in year groups in the last few days of term but we are sorry that we will be unable to invite parents this year.

“All the very best.”
