“ON Radio 4 last Friday, the British cyclist Mark Cavendish was interviewed to mark the launch of his new book, Tour de Force. He has struggled with numerous setbacks, including serious crashes, illness, depression and being dropped from his team. He then fought back to fitness to win 34 stages of the Tour de France, equalling the all-time record of stage wins.

“The core of his message was a very simple ‘Don’t give up’. However, he also emphasised the importance of having a strong support network of family and friends. This serves as a timely reminder that even world champions need the support of others.

“All the very best.”
