“THE term is in full swing and the engine room of our learning has got veritable steam coming from the pistons! From my travels around school, I am delighted to hear about the number of little learning moments that are occurring at high frequency at this time. As we celebrated the fortnightly refresh of Gold Work in Assembly yesterday, it is clear that despite a challenging year, progress is very evident. We look forward to sharing carefully modelled owlets, junk modelled dinosaurs and program animated stories of the Fire of London with prospective parents at our Open Event tomorrow, and with our current parents on Saturday 3rd July at our Summer Celebration.

“Our intensive weeks of swimming at the KEJ pool continued this week. It has been the turn of Year 1 to use their woggles as unicorns and floats as sharks as they learn water confidence, under water skills and stamina to swim and even dive! I visited them in action yesterday and it was certainly warmer in the pool than it was outside! Time flew as the children put their full trust in their instructors and boldly followed a ‘can do, will do’ attitude!

“We have supported the national Mental Health Awareness initiative this week which centred on the calming mindfulness of nature. This began in our Monday Assembly and has been followed on with in-class discussion. We all look forward to greeting Mr Whymark (Head of King’s Ely Junior) on Monday as he hosts our Start of the Week Assembly and spends time with our Year 2 pupils as they begin a week of transition activities at KEJ and the Monastic Barn.

“For the last time today, I spoke with Year 2 parents at our termly ‘At Home’ before moving on to Junior. Thank you Year 2 parents for sharing many cups of coffee with me during your time here. I have very much enjoyed listening, sharing and discussing the wonderful learning journey enjoyed by your children.

“I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.”
