KING’S Ely Senior student, Steph Birkwood, was on fantastic form at British Triathlon’s final ‘East Junior Series 2022’ race of the season!

Steph, who is going into Year 10, crossed the finish line in 34 minutes and 53 seconds, placing her 5th out of the 43 athletes in her age category.

The race took place at Oundle School on Sunday (August 28th) and saw Steph taking on a 300-metre swim, a 6-kilometre cycle and a 2.4-kilometre run, which is the usual ‘Tristar 3’ distance that she races.

Steph has been a member of WaldenTRI (Junior) since she was just 6-years-old.

As if placing 5th in the event wasn’t brilliant enough, Steph was also delighted to meet triple World Champion and six-time European Champion Para-Triathlete, Lauren Steadman MBE, at the finish line.

Lauren, who many of you will also recognise from BBC Strictly Come Dancing and Channel 4’s ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’, attended the event to support the junior athletes, and Steph described her as a real inspiration.

Congratulations Steph, what an awesome achievement and experience!
