YEAR 13 student, Holly Burke, is our Captain of Boats.

We had a quick catch-up with Holly to find out how she has been keeping fit during lockdown and what she is looking forward to most about returning to school…

Are you proud to be Captain of Boats, Holly?

“I am extremely proud to be Captain of Boats! It is always rewarding to be recognised by the school as someone who can be an active role model and guide for those within the Boat Club.”

In what ways have you been able to fulfil this role during lockdown – despite not being in school, have you been doing anything online?

“During the lockdown I’ve been able to engage with the Senior members of the Boat Club, working together to prepare for our upcoming GB trials.”

What do you enjoy most about Rowing at King’s Ely?

“The thing I most enjoy about Rowing at King’s is the support and guidance I receive around me from my coaches and peers. We are lucky enough to have an amazing boat house with great facilities and direct access to the Great River Ouse.”

How have you been keeping active and fit during lockdown?

“Despite not being in school, Mr Ward, Mr Foster and Miss Bradbury have provided well-structured and engaging sessions during the lockdown, ranging from being on the rowing machine to circuits. I have also enjoyed going on many bike rides and runs, as well as lots of dog walks with my family.”

What are you most looking forward to about returning to the Boat Club?

“I’m most looking forward to seeing all of my crew mates again and to get back on the water after not being able to row for the past two months.”
