Nell will be studying Classical Studies and English at the University of St Andrews after achieving the A-Level grades she needed.
Nell joined King's Ely Prep in Year 5. She studied History, English Literature, Maths, and Textile Design at A-Level.
When asked what she plans to do career wise, Nell said: "I am not entirely sure yet, but definitely something to do with writing. I would love to have my own column in a magazine or a newspaper!"
To describe King's in three words, Nell chose "inclusive, encouraging, empowering".
Nell was appointed Deputy Head of School, a Queen's Scholar, and a Music and Drama Scholar.
She said: "I tried to participate in as many activities as I could during my time at King’s. I was a Music and Drama Scholar, so I was a member of the Dance Troupe, Flute Choir, Chamber Choir, Chapel Choir, Concert Band, and Orchestra, alongside taking weekly singing and flute lessons, and playing roles in the school musicals. As a Queen’s Scholar, I also took part in academic extension clubs like the seminar-style discussion group, ‘An Other Club’, and I attended frequent round table lectures and ‘History Cafes’. I also enjoyed Rowing, being a Prefect, and being awarded the role of Deputy Head Girl, which meant I got to lead lots of tours and attend Acremont and Prep School events!"
When asked to describe the teaching and learning environment at King's, Nell said: "My teachers throughout my education at King’s were extremely supportive in every way. Especially in Sixth Form, when I had free periods, all of my teachers were willing to sacrifice their own spare time to help me with whatever I was struggling with. The Textiles Department was always open, for example, so I could drop in and do some extra work, and my English Teacher provided me with extra weekly lessons in preparation for my UCAS application, where I would read certain texts each week to discuss in a meeting – this definitely helped me achieve an A* in English."
Describing the pastoral support at King's, Nell said: "The pastoral support was great. Every teacher was friendly and always had the time to talk to me if I was worried about something. Tutors and Housemasters take the time to get to know you from when you first join the House in Year 9, and even the little things like conversations when you get to school in the morning create a very supportive atmosphere."
When asked what she will miss most about King's, Nell said: "I will miss seeing my friends everyday most of all. I am slowly realising that I will never have another breaktime in the common room again! Alongside this, just the sense of camaraderie throughout the Sixth Form I think is really valuable, and I will definitely miss."
Describing what she feels makes King's a unique place to study, Nell said: "At King's, everybody is encouraged to take part in multiple aspects of school life. You do not have to be either sporty or musical, you can be both and also be great at Geography, for example. Teachers communicate with each other to enable you to take as many opportunities as possible, and there is a really inclusive atmosphere. Private education is a huge investment, but I would say that an education is the most important thing you can give to a child and, by sending them to King’s, you can ensure that they will be given a well-rounded and rigorous, but also rewarding, education."
Congratulations Nell - enjoy St Andrews and keep in touch!
