2026 King's Ely International Concert is a resounding success

January 2026

Our '2026 International Concert' was an amazing celebration of how having a pupil body made up of more than forty different nationalities makes our school community so vibrant!

King's Ely Senior and Sixth Form students and staff packed inside the Hayward Theatre for the annual extravaganza, which is organised every Lent Term as part of our action-packed 'International Week'.

We applaud the diverse nationality mix of our pupils, families, and staff at every opportunity throughout the year. However, our 'International Week' is always a fantastic, five-day opportunity to really shout about our global community from the rooftops.

This year's theme was 'Building Bridges Through Language', and the programme featured student-led assemblies, film screenings, tutor quizzes, a 'bridge building passport competition', different themed lunches every day, and the highlight for many - the 'International Concert'.

Organised by Mrs Melanie Franklin, our Head of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), more than fifty students from Years 9-13 starred in the concert, performing everything from energetic K-pop dancing to contemporary pop songs to traditional Thai dancing.

Year 13 student, Oynisa, who is from Uzbekistan, said: "The International Concert reflects what our school does best - celebrating our differences and appreciating diverse cultures. The concert has become a fundamental part of International Week at King's, and it is wonderful to see our international community celebrated and admired."

Tracy, a student on our Year 11 International programme, said: "King's has truly shown me that diversity is not only something that we talk about, but something that we experience together. International Week was an exceptional experience; to see students like me, from all around the world, stand up and eagerly share about who they are and what is special about their culture. Diversity is not about standing apart, but standing together while being different."

King's Ely Prep joined in on the International Week celebrations too, with ESOL pupils creating impactful posters about their hometowns and countries, and sharing information about their cultures with their peers. They also prepared interesting facts and a quiz for tutor groups to enjoy in form time!
