Harriet to study Degree Apprenticeship with Cheffins and Harper Adams University

September 2025

Harriet will be studying a Degree Apprenticeship in Rural Enterprise and Land Management with Cheffins and Harper Adams University after achieving the A-Level grades she needed.

Harriet joined King's Ely Prep in Year 4. She studied Biology, Economics, and Physical Education at A-Level, and Core Maths.

Harriet said: "My Degree Apprenticeship will see me working full-time in the Rural Department at Cheffins, learning to do things such as valuations, surveying, Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI), and much more. Once a month, I will go to Harper Adams University for a week to study, attend lectures, and work towards my degree."

When asked what she plans to do career wise, Harriet said: "Once I have completed my degree, I intend to do my Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) qualifications. I plan on continuing with Cheffins and branching into the SFI environmental side of the Department."

Describing the teaching and learning environment at King's, Harriet said: "My teachers and I always had a great rapport, with them being understanding of me and my learning needs, and them always trying to make things more understandable for me. I always felt that I could speak to my teachers about anything that was worrying me."

To say that Harriet took advantage of the co-curricular and extra-curricular offerings at King's would be a slight understatement.

She said: "The opportunities available at King's are second to none! There are countless extra-curricular activities, whether that involves Sport, Academics, Music, Drama, or Art. There is something for everyone, whether it is your first time trying it, or you are a seasoned pro!

"Throughout my time at King’s, I threw myself into extra-curricular activities. In Year 13 alone, I was a Prefect, Captain of the Swimming Team, Vice-Captain of the Netball Team, and I played 1st Team Cricket. During my free periods on a Wednesday, I went down to the Prep School and coached the Prep Netball and Hockey Teams, which I really enjoyed. I also coached the Prep Swimming Team, attending several galas with them.

"As well as Sport, I played the flute and piccolo in the Senior Band and Flute Choir. I was also an Ely Scheme Pupil Instructor, I completed my Bronze, Silver, and Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, and my friend, Ruby, and I won the Martin Doyle Competition this year for Torfrida House. The Martin Doyle was really special to me as not only did I get to do it with one of my best friends, but it proved that I am capable of doing things I thought were impossible!"

To describe King’s in three words, Harriet chose "challenging, exciting, enlightening"

When asked what she will miss most about King's, Harriet said: "I will miss my friends and the community spirit at King’s. I will also miss the Sport. I was heavily involved in 1st Team Sport from Year 11, and I always found that Sport was such a good way to mix and form friendships with students from all year groups."

Congratulations Harriet - enjoy Cheffins and Harper Adams, and keep in touch!
