Charlotte to study Mathematics at University of Edinburgh

September 2025

Charlotte will be studying Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh after achieving the A-Level grades she needed.

Charlotte joined King's Ely Senior in Year 10 from a school in Germany. She studied Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, and Fine Art at A-Level.

When asked what she plans to do career wise, Charlotte said: "I am not set on a certain career, although I can see myself devoting time to further academic studies after my time in Edinburgh."

To describe King's in three words, Charlotte chose "creative, supportive, exciting".

When asked what she thinks makes King's unique compared to other schools, Charlotte said: "King's is unique in the fact that you can pursue interests equally, no matter how different they may seem. It did not matter if I was studying for a Maths exam or working on Art coursework or learning lines for a play - I always felt like I had someone in my corner cheering me on. I never felt like I had to give up on one passion to pursue another."

Charlotte certainly took full advantage of the co-curricular, extra-curricular, and enrichment activities on offer at King's.

She said: "I participated in so many activities! D&D Club, Diversity Club, Rowing, Head of House in my first boarding house, and Pupil Voice as a Prefect. It is amazing that there are so many clubs on offer, but what I mostly dedicated my time to was the Drama Department. The Drama Department is truly amazing at King's, and was actually the reason I joined the school. I was lucky enough to participate on stage and backstage in many King's productions. The community was genuinely incredible and although the commitment to a show comes with a lot of hard work, the cast and crew, as well as all of the Drama Teachers, make it so rewarding. The opportunities to get individual singing lessons and to participate in dance lessons and acting workshops throughout the year also means that you gain a plethora of new skills by participating in Drama and Music at King's."

Describing the teaching and learning environment at King's, Charlotte said: "The teachers are incredibly supportive. You can really feel that they care about you and spend a lot of time making sure you can achieve the best grades possible. They do not just support purely academic pursuits either. I felt incredibly grateful to my teachers for also supporting my Drama activities at King's, from supporting the productions to helping me catch up on work after show-week. I cannot explain how thankful I am for all the work they put in."

When asked how well supported she felt pastorally at King's, Charlotte said: "I boarded at King's for four years, and the boarding community was my home away from home. Being able to speak to my Housemistresses and duty Tutors about anything I needed help with was incredibly helpful."

Describing what she will miss most about King's, Charlotte said: "What I will miss most about King's is the community. Learning choreography during rehearsals, or chatting with teachers, or eating three meals a day with my friends in the Monastic Barn or Refectory have all made me come to the conclusion that the personal connections that I was able to form were the most rewarding part of being at King's."

Congratulations Charlotte - enjoy Edinburgh and keep in touch!
