Charlie to study War Studies at King's College London

August 2025

Charlie will be studying War Studies at King's College London after achieving the A-Level grades he needed.

Charlie joined King's Ely Senior in Year 9 from St John's College School in Cambridge. He studied History, Politics, and Business Studies at A-Level.

When asked what he plans to do career wise, Charlie said: "I plan on pursuing a career in the global corporate defence sector."

To describe King's in three words, Charlie chose "ambitious, caring, enthusiastic".

When asked what he thinks makes King's a unique place to study, Charlie said: "The vast array of opportunities at King’s definitely stands out from other schools, I think. King's is especially effective in providing opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills, and there are so many activities which allow you to push yourself outside your comfort zone. This has been an integral part of preparing me for later life. The community nature of the school is also undoubtedly special, and as a result allows you to fully reach your potential."

In his final year at King's, Charlie was appointed Head of Osmond House. He said: "This role enabled me to develop a range of skills which I otherwise would not have obtained, especially with regards to leadership and teamwork. I thoroughly enjoyed this position, and being able to give back to Osmond House was an excellent experience. During my time at King’s, I also remained involved in the Ely Scheme programme, which is very useful for honing leadership skills, and the experience of teaching is something that I will be able to take into the future."

Describing the teaching and learning environment at King’s, Charlie said: "The quality of teaching was consistently high throughout my time at the school. Teachers were supportive and always willing to go above and beyond. The Learning Support Department was especially helpful, and really supported me to reach my full potential. A special mention of Mr Foster is needed, as he is always ready to go above and beyond. Mr Thomas is also unforgettable, and his passion for the subject and no-nonsense teaching style is very inspiring!"

Charlie says that he will miss the "strong community-centred environment" at King's. He added: "The relationships that I made at King’s will remain with me for life, and the close-knit nature of the school is truly special. King's consistently excelled across the board for me, and the variety of opportunities on offer really is amazing."

Congratulations Charlie - enjoy London and keep in touch!
