Angie will be studying Psychology at the University of York after achieving the A-Level grades she needed.
Angie joined King's Ely Senior in Year 10 from a school in Hong Kong. She studied Biology, Chemistry, and Maths at A-Level. Angie also completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), titled: 'To what extent do parasocial relationships impact on adolescents’ wellbeing?'
When asked what she plans to do career wise, Angie said: "I am not sure at the moment, but I am excited to explore specialities in Psychology, particularly Clinical Psychology. I guess I will have to see where University takes me!"
To describe King's in three words, Angie chose "supportive, vibrant, homely".
Angie was a full-time boarder throughout her four years at King's. She said: "The heart-warming boarding community was definitely one of the best things about my time at King's - I enjoyed every moment. Mrs Jackson, Miss Armstrong, and other boarding house staff were always there to listen and help. Life in the boarding house was never boring, with fun weekend activities, like water fights, movie nights, and lots more. Boarding taught me a lot about myself, and showed me how I could thrive, which I feel prepared me well for University and beyond."
When asked what the teaching and learning environment is like at King's, Angie said: "The teaching at King’s encourages every student to contribute. From group discussions to research presentations, lessons were always diverse and fun. Extra help was always available through support sessions and tutorial lessons, which were very helpful. My teachers were approachable and genuinely cared about my wellbeing, not just my academic progress."
In Sixth Form, Angie was appointed a Queen's Scholar and a School Prefect. She was also very involved in the co-curricular and enrichment programmes here at King's.
Angie said: "I completed the Language Leader programme, which was teaching my first language, Cantonese, to students in the Prep School. The children enjoyed it so much that it became a regular after school club, which my friends got involved with too. I also attended Avicenna Society, which opened doors to ward volunteering opportunities, which then helped my self-reflection on career directions and my University application. I tried out recreational Rowing and Tennis, and it was great stepping out of my comfort zone."
When asked what she thinks makes King's a unique place to study, Angie said: "King’s offers all-rounded and balanced opportunities in academic pursuits and extra-curricular activities. You find out what you are good at at King's. It might be a sport, it might be a subject, it might be an important skill. And it is fun! I will miss the people I met, my teachers, the amazing socials, the long gallery, and living with my friends in the boarding house. I loved King's!"
Congratulations Angie - enjoy York and keep in touch!
