King's Ely Prep, Senior, and Sixth Form Sport Update (September 24th)

September 2025

Hockey, Rugby, Rowing, Swimming, Cross Country, Badminton, Golf - to say that Michaelmas Term Sport is in full swing is a bit of an understatement!

Congratulations to our Under 16A Rugby Squad for winning the first round of the School Sport Magazine National Schools Cup against The Perse yesterday.

Yesterday also saw our Under 18A Boys' Golf Team enjoying a competitive tournament against Gresham's at the super-scenic Sheringham Golf Club.

On Monday, our Under 12 and Under 13 Swimming Teams welcomed pupils from St Faith's to King's for an exciting gala. The Under 13s drew and the Under 12s won by quite a margin.

As ever, Saturday was jam-packed with training and fixtures, with around 300 pupils representing themselves and the school in Sport.

We had Rugby matches against Bishop's Stortford College, with the Under 16As, Under 15As, Under 14As, and Under 13As all winning their games.

Our Senior Girls' Hockey Teams achieved a fully unbeaten block of fixtures against Wellingborough School, with the 1st XI Girls drawing their match, and the 2nd XIs, Under 18Bs, Under 15As, and Under 14As winning all of their games.

Our Senior Badminton Teams played in competitive fixtures against The Perse, resulting in a mixture of ties and losses, plus there was Cross Country, Swimming, and Rowing training.

On September 18th, our Under 15A Football Boys beat (convincingly!) Gresham's in the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) Cup, securing them a place in the second round.

On the same day, our 1st XI Hockey Girls had a county tournament, in which they beat Wisbech Grammar and drew three matches against Stephen Perse, St Mary's, and Hills Road. King's ended in third position based on goal difference.

On September 17th, we had an impressive total of 13 Prep Hockey Teams competing in matches against Oundle, Bedford Girls', Fairstead House, and Dame Bradbury's. A mixture of wins, draws, and losses - kudos to all pupils for their grit and determination, especially those for whom it was their first experience of playing in a Hockey match.

Students in Years 9-13 have also had House Cross Country since our last Sports update. 95 pupils competed in the Years 9-10 competition and 81 students participated in the Years 11-13 race. Kudos to every single athlete for their energy and resilience, and congratulations to Henry Cartmell and India Mace for winning the Years 9-10 race, and Oliver Loveday and Steph Birkwood for winning the Years 11-13 race.

Good luck to all our Prep Hockey and Rugby Teams for their fixtures today (September 24th)!
