'King's Ely International Week 2026', let's go!
Did you know that pupils from over forty different countries are currently studying at King's?
We are extremely proud of this, and we celebrate the diverse nationality mix of our pupils, families, and staff at every opportunity throughout the year. However, our 'International Week' - held annually in the Lent Term - is always a wonderful, five-day opportunity to really shout about our global community from the rooftops.
This year's theme is 'Building Bridges Through Language', and the programme features student-led assemblies, film screenings, tutor quizzes, a 'bridge building passport competition', different themed lunches every day, and the highlight for many - the International Concert!
Speaking in a virtual assembly to all Senior and Sixth Form students on January 16th, our Director for International Students, Mr Matthew Norbury, said: "Picture this. In your mind’s eye, picture this: thousands of years ago after the Flood, humanity spoke a single language. One voice. One tongue. One sound. And then, according to the Biblical account of the Tower of Babel, this one voice was broken, and we scattered. Our single voice ceased to exist, and we split into a thousand tongues, separated by words we couldn't understand. But look around this school right now. I mean, really look around. What do you see?
"I’d like to suggest that we are the Tower of Babel in reverse. We haven't scattered - we've gathered. From Finland to the Fens, from Korea to Cambridge, from Egypt to Ely, we've come together. And every language represented in our community, in our school - Mandarin and Malay, Spanish and Swedish, Turkish and Thai - isn't a wall between us. Each language is a bridge waiting to be built. And it's a bridge we can build together."
We look forward to sharing our International Week celebrations with you on our socials!
