King's Ely House Music Competition 2025

October 2025
One of the highlights of the year for King's Ely Senior and Sixth Form students - House Music Competition - took place on October 16th!
The theme of our annual contest this year was the 1980s, and wow did pupils (and many members of staff!) go all out for the occasion.
Our adjudicators for 2025 were musician and 80s tribute artist, Duncan Maletka, and dancer and actress, Megan Porter. After much deliberation, they decided the following:
🏆 Overall Winner - Osmond House
🏆 Unison Winner - Withburga House
🏆 Ensemble Winner - Wilkinson House
Mrs Jane Thomas, our Head of King’s Ely Senior and Vice Principal, said: "The school is still buzzing from House Music! We revisited the 1980s, and the Hayward Theatre was rocking to the sounds of Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, Wham, and The Clash, to name but a few of the bands that had their songs featured. From Hill House line dancing to Paul “Rocky” Lott and his team becoming video stars, a truly amazing afternoon was had by all.
"My thanks to Neil Porter-Thaw and his brilliant tech team for pulling the whole thing together; to the judges who had the least enviable task of picking winners; to Hayley Mortimer for overseeing logistics, and of course the House staff for overseeing rehearsals. The pupils sang their hearts out, threw themselves into performing and dressing up, and cheered each other on. They were all stars of the show – bravo!"
