King's Ely competes in British Shooting East of England Schools Rifle and Pistol Championships

November 26th, 2024

We were thrilled to compete in the 2024 British Shooting East of England Schools Rifle and Pistol Championships for the first ever time!

Six King's Ely Senior students, who all enjoy the sport outside school, formed two teams of three to represent King's in the competition, held on November 22nd. The championships took place at Ipswich High School in Suffolk, attracting more than 200 competitors from twenty different schools.

Our Year 9 'intermediate' team was made up of Beau, George, and Mollie, who achieved a very respectable 3rd place as a team, narrowly missing out on a place in the next round. Individually, George placed 14th, Mollie 15th, and Beau 18th.

Our Year 11 'senior' team comprised of Odette, Eliza, and Martha. They too placed 3rd as a team on the day, narrowly missing out on a place in the national finals. Individually, Eliza placed 12th, Odette 13th, and Martha 14th.

Mr Alex Meddle, who is Director of Sport at King's Ely Senior, accompanied the teams on the day. He said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for a group of highly talented pupils to showcase their shooting skills whilst representing the school. It was a new event for the students against strong competition, but they performed brilliantly under pressure. It was also great to enter another national competition. It demonstrates the hard work and commitment that both pupils and staff put into the sports programme at King’s. As a school, we have and are continuing to significantly develop our sport offering, and opportunities for pupils to compete on a county, regional, and national level."
