Gus will be studying Computer Science and Mathematics at Durham University after achieving the A-Level grades he needed.
Gus joined King's Ely Senior in Year 9 from St John's College School in Cambridge. He studied Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science, and Physics at A-Level.
When asked what he plans to do career wise, Gus said: "Any job in software! I am loving game development at the moment, but I am sure University will help me narrow it down!"
To describe King's in three words, Gus chose "vibrant, encouraging, connected".
When asked how well supported he felt pastorally at King's, Gus said: "From when I joined King's in Year 9, the teachers and staff really helped me to develop my confidence. I remember in those first couple of years, I was definitely underperforming and finding my place socially, but my teachers kept an eye on me and gave me a leg up when I needed it. In Sixth Form, I was part of such a tight-knit community that kept me afloat, especially with the stress of applications and exams."
Describing the teaching and learning environment at King's, Gus said: "I had brilliant one-on-one support after school and in my free periods for extra exams and leading up to my A-Levels. My teachers were amazing, and even now for my University course, I feel that I have a real understanding of everything I have learnt, in depth, from the bottom up. At King’s, teachers seemed like a genuine part of the community and not just people you saw in lessons. They were always approachable, even for the odd question at break – it was a great learning environment."
Gus was a Scholar in Years 12 and 13, and he enjoyed helping out in Turing Club, which is for our budding coders.
When asked what he will miss most about King's, Gus said: "Definitely the wider group of friends and community that we had as a year group. I know that I will see many of them in the coming years and after, but some of the frees and break times we spent together were both productive and hilarious at the same time. I think it will be quite a shock without this at University! King’s is an incredibly welcoming and safe place. Without the environment that King’s provided, I do not think I could have even dreamed of getting the grades I achieved. I felt incredibly comfortable and welcome – especially walking in to a school which some had been at since Nursery!"
Congratulations Gus - enjoy Durham and keep in touch!
