Hockey

At King’s Ely, hockey is a thriving sport with a programme designed to develop players at all levels.

Teams participate in prestigious tournaments, including the England Hockey Schools competition for the 1st XI girls' team and county tournaments at U14 and U16 levels

The school runs a range of teams for girls with U14AB, U15AB, 2nd XI, and 1st XI. For the boys, we currently offer a combined U14/15A and 1st team.
Each team benefits from a dedicated coach, and we offer specialised goalkeeper coaching to enhance the skills of our goalkeepers.
For more advanced development, we provide Player Pathway Programmes, helping players progress into club, county, and Talent Academy (TA) systems.
The hockey facilities include access to the astro pitches at both King’s Ely and Ely City Hockey Club, ensuring excellent training environments. Our students are also actively engaged with local hockey clubs such as Ely HC, St Ives, Saffron Walden, and Cambridge City HC, fostering community involvement and additional skill development.
We also offer Strength & Conditioning (S&C) programmes to support players' athletic development, and have opportunities to experience hockey tours, both locally and abroad. Recent tours to Holland and Malaysia have provided valuable international exposure.
