OUR Ely Cathedral Boy Choristers enjoyed a fun-filled Olympics evening on September 15th.

The event was a great success, with the balmy weather enticing almost a full house of parents out to support the boys and to participate themselves.

Event highlights were the apple and spoon race, the three-legged race, the mad scientist race and the prosecco race (for the adults of course!)

Housemaster of Choir House, Thomas Stockwell, said: “The events were closely matched but the green team just pipped the orange team to the trophy by one event! Mr Dempsey comfortably won the prosecco race and ex-chorister Thomas Allen won the siblings race. It was a wonderfully light-hearted event and I’m already looking forward to planning another Choir House family event soon!”

Being a chorister at King’s Ely is something very special: singing Evensong in Ely Cathedral, sharing life with the other choristers at Choir House, being part of a very happy, talented group of boys – it’s an experience that will stay with them throughout their lives. For many, it will also mark the beginning of a successful and fulfilling musical career.

Ely Cathedral Boys’ Choir has been part of the English Choral tradition since the mid-16th century, and in terms of monastic heritage, its history can be traced back considerably further to before the time of King Canute, circa 990 AD.
